The Agricultural Ditch and Reservoir Company/The Golden Canal and Reservoir Company: Ditch Rider Position Available

The Agricultural Ditch and Reservoir Company and its subsidiary, The Golden Canal and Reservoir Company is seeking to fill the position of Ditch Rider. This position will require a motivated person who works well alone and with minimal supervision. Mandatory overtime is required from April 1st through October 31st.

The position will require the daily maintenance and cleaning of ditch trash racks, removal of vegetation and debris within the ditches and along their banks.  The position will require the use of small powered equipment such as chainsaws, brush cutters, trimmers and mowers   In addition, the position will require the operation of light equipment such as  mini-excavators, dump trucks and mowers.  The position will assist the ditch superintendent/manager with projects associated with the upkeep of the ditch system and its reservoirs.  The position will operate manual gates, valves and turn outs,  monitor diversion measurement structures, reservoir levels and piezometers and will respond to emergencies such as storm events, spills and flooding. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license with no restrictions and a good record.
  • A pre-employment drug screen and background check will be required.

 

Other experience and skills preferred, but not required:

  • Experience in construction, ditch operations, farm work, parks or grounds.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Other benefits include 2 weeks paid vacation (during off season), employers contribution to 401K plan and health insurance.

Ditch Rider Wanted

Montrose based ditch and reservoir company/water district has an opening for ditch rider position, to be filled as soon as possible, with employment to start April 1, 2016. The position requires a self-starting, motivated person who has several skills and can work alone and following instructions with minimal supervision. The job requires the ditch rider to live in ditch rider’s house at Cerro Summit (about 14 miles from Montrose) year around.
Education and Experience Requirements: high school diploma or equivalent, ability to use hand tools, valid Colorado driver’s license with no restrictions and good record, ability to use basic office equipment (including computer with internet, tablets, cellular phone, copy and fax machines, printers, etc.). A pre-employment drug screening, physical, and background check will be required.

Other experience and skills preferred, but not required, include: work experience in construction, ditch operations, parks or grounds maintenance, operation of heavy equipment and machinery, welding.

Job Duties include: maintenance of the ditch rider residence, maintenance of equipment and vehicles and tools, equipment, and machinery, operation and maintenance of approx. 60 miles of canals, ditches and laterals and related structures within the jurisdiction of the Company/District, work with Division Engineer regarding diversions and storage of water under all water rights decrees, headgate adjustments and control as necessary and control and recording of flows and volumetric quantities of water supplied to water users, operation of SilverJack & Fish Lake Reservoirs, attending workshops as required from time to time (including a workshop to obtain certification by the Bureau of Reclamation as a dam tender), work with water users and management, notify management of areas of concern and needs of the company, and such other duties as prescribed from time to time. Ditch rider must be available to be on call 24/7 during the irrigation season to handle emergencies regarding the ditch and reservoir systems and regarding water deliveries. Work will require periodic heavy lifting.

The Church Ditch Water Authority is seeking a highly motivated, self-starter to fill the position of General Manager. This is a highly flexible position that will allow for both field work and administrative duties. The General Manager position will offer the qualified individual the opportunity to work in the growing field of water resource management and be responsible for the daily operations of the Authority.

The Church Ditch Water Authority (CDWA) is a historic ditch company that has been serving the northwest metro area since the late 1800s. CDWA provides water to various municipal agencies as well as agricultural irrigators and industrial users.

Duties and Responsibilities

The General Manager for the Church Ditch Water Authority will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the CDWA. This will include direct supervision of all CDWA staff, coordination and communication with CDWA contractors and engineers, budget and capital project planning, water delivery operation and assistance with field functions and activities as needed. The General Manager will also work closely with the CDWA board of directors.

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree with course work emphasis in engineering, hydrology, construction management, water resources, or water law and a minimum 6 years of experience in construction and construction management, ditch operations, parks or grounds maintenance; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, ability and skills to effectively manage a ditch company.
  2. Two (2) years of increasing responsibility for the supervision of staff and employees.
  3. Advanced understanding of budgeting and master planning processes.
  4. Expert understanding of water measurement devices and their proper function, installation and use.
  5. Ability to operate heavy equipment including, but not limited to: dump truck, excavators, tractors, etc…
  6. Ability to operate hand tools.
  7. Ability to operate landscaping tools.
  8. Ability to read and understand construction plans and drawings.
  9. Ability to use basic office equipment including, but not limited to: personal computer with internet, tablets, cellular phone, copy machine, fax machine, printer, etc…

Additional Requirements

Must be available for 24 hour on-call during irrigation season.

Must possess a valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) issued by the State of Colorado. A class A CDL is desirable, and a good driving record.

Working in inclement weather conditions, including heat and cold and precipitation events will be necessary.

Work will require periodic heavy lifting.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000 per year. Starting salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.

FRICO is Seeking a Corporate Secretary (Filled)

The Farmers Reservoir and Irrigation Company (FRICO) is a mutual ditch company that was incorporated in 1902. It has over 8,000 shares in 500 separate shareholder accounts. FRICO’s business office is in Brighton, CO. The FRICO system consists of four major and several smaller reservoirs and approximately 400 miles of canals extending from the Front Range foothills to east of Greeley, Colorado. FRICO also manages three associated ditch and reservoir company systems. FRICO provides the major storage for the municipal needs of 300,000 citizens of four municipalities in the northwest Denver area. FRICO’s other reservoirs remain predominantly in agricultural use.

FRICO is seeking a self-motivated, resourceful Corporate Secretary that is a fast learner with the technical aptitude to develop an understanding of stock transfers and accounting as well as assist with maintaining and improving upon a records database.

The Corporate Secretary will facilitate permanent stock transfers of FRICO stock as well as various corporations managed by FRICO. This includes working directly with shareholders, title companies and attorneys representing shareholders to ensure that the requirements for a transfer of mutual ditch company stock have been met, then preparing a presentation of the transfer for review and approval by the Board of Directors.

The Corporate Secretary is responsible for maintaining an accurate record of shareholders of FRICO as well as various corporations managed by FRICO. This position also maintains FRICO’s filing system and digital filing database.

Other responsibilities include coordination of annual shareholder meetings, issuance of notices to shareholders, and assisting in the day to day duties of a small office.

Required Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will possess excellent professional and organization skills, as well as good written and oral communication skills. Good problem solving skills and professional experience with the latest versions of Microsoft office products are required, as well as the ability to perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks. A strong attention to detail and time management skills are also required.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent substantive knowledge and relevant work experience as a corporate paralegal.
• A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• 2 years relevant experience.
