Colorado Irrigation History

Learn more about Colorado irrigation history from the comfort of your own computer.

The Water Resources Archive at Colorado State University (CSU) recently digitized eleven oral history transcripts from the North Poudre Irrigation Company Oral History Collection. CSU Professor James Hansen and several graduate students captured these interviews with some of NPIC’s board members and stock holders between 1992 and 1994. The interviews, along with a company history and officer chronology also online, give insight into an important irrigation operation in Northern Colorado.

To read these materials online, go to the NPIC collection finding aid at http://lib.colostate.edu/archives/findingaids/water/wnpi.html and look for the “VIEW COLLECTION” hyperlink toward the bottom of the page. Patrons can also find other digital items related to Colorado’s water history with keyword searches on the Archive’s website, http://lib.colostate.edu/archives/water/. The Water Resources Archive is Colorado’s only repository dedicated specifically to preserving the history of water in the state and the American West.
