We at DARCA have been closely following developments at the Fort Lyon Canal Company, headquartered in Lamar. Unlike many ditch companies, the Fort Lyon's annual meeting is open to the press and once again this year, the Pueblo Chieftain provides coverage. If you've been following the case, you'll recall that 40% of the Company's shares have been acquired by an outside interest with the presumed intent of eventually exporting the water to the Denver area for municipal use. For more background on the situation, refer to a previous DARCA article, An Overview of the Fort Lyon Case.
This year's annual shareholder meeting marked the end of Dale Mauch's tenure as president of the Fort Lyon Canal Company. Dale was one of our most highly-rated speakers at our 3rd Annual Convention in La Junta in 2005. (DARCA members can download a copy of his presentation here.) We wish only the best for Fort Lyon's new president, Mike Downing, and we congratulate Dale on a job well done during a tumultuous period of the Company's distinguished history.
