Many canal companies realize property rights can be extremely valuable. If properly managed, they can increase to the company’s financial health. The scope of real estate holdings; and issues faced by canal companies may include: easements of ditches and reservoirs; carriage agreements; oil and gas royalties; reservoir holdings; and rights, responsibilities and liabilities of land owned under fee simple.
