DARCA's next workshop, Bylaws for Ditch Companies, will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Four Mile Community Clubhouse, (corner of East Main and Steinmeier Avenue, next to Sonny’s Ace Hardware) in Canon City, Colorado.
The workshop is designed for officers, directors and shareholders of ditch companies, as well as attorneys. It is certified by the Colorado Supreme Court for 5 continuing legal education credits.
Besides an overall view of what ditch company bylaws should contain, the Bylaws workshop will focus on issues such as operations, interference with ditch structures, change of water rights, assessments, forfeitures, right of first refusal, and other issues of current interest to ditch and reservoir companies, and how bylaws can be written to address those issues. Over 70 pages of sample bylaws will be distributed to workshop participants.
Carol Werner, Esq., an attorney and shareholder in the Tetsel Mutual Ditch Company, and Eve Triffo, a retired California attorney and shareholder in the Canon City and Oil Creek Ditch Company, will present the workshop. The cost is $50 for DARCA and Colorado Water Congress members, and $100 for non-members.
