The Ditch and Reservoir Company Alliance (DARCA) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization looking for interns that are interested in developing skills and contributing to the organization. Established in 2001, DARCA is for the benefit of all types of irrigation enterprises – ditch companies, reservoir companies, laterals, private ditches, and irrigation districts. DARCA’s mission is to become the definitive resource for networking, education and advocacy for its members in Colorado. Its approximately 220+ members not only include mutual ditch and reservoir companies but also irrigation districts, municipalities, suppliers, consultants, professors, engineers, and lawyers. It is governed by a geographically diversified 11-member board of directors comprised of ditch company personnel and water experts from across the state.
DARCA interns play a large role in the organization, taking on a myriad of tasks and goals including: annual convention coordination, workshop planning, website updating, database work, GIS, membership, designing graphics, research and marketing. Interns may also work on research projects if interested. DARCA is proud to have interns from a variety of places, such as the University of Colorado at Boulder, Front Range Community College, Metropolitan State University of Denver, the University of Denver, Quest University, Canada, University of California, Berkeley, and the University of San Diego. The internships are unpaid, however, most interns receive college credit for their work with DARCA. Please check with your college about its internship program.
In essence, DARCA is a small – but important – nonprofit that requires many tasks to be completed including those required of running any business and at the same time developing value to our members.
